Phakamani Educational Center

Phakamani Educational Center is a primary school in Weilers Farm. Weilers Farm is an informal settlement in Walkerville. Some of the issues that the school and community have to deal with is poverty, unemployment (70%) and child headed households. It is hard to believe that we have such dire need only 30km South of Johannesburg.

The school is dependent on school fees (R50 per year) to sustain itself but unfortunately not all parents can afford to pay and this sometimes leads to teachers not getting an income at all. The school is in desperate need of extra funding and basic necessities. They do not have electricity, no sports facilities and the classes are too small for the 700 children.

How can you help?

Sign up with the MySchool program. This will not cost you a cent and the school will receive a percentage of your shopping that you do at certain shops (Woolworths, Spur, Engen, Kalahari.net, Reggies, Jack’s Paint, Club Travel, Waltons, QuickSilver, Supa Quick).

If you have an existing MySchool card you can split it so that a percentage go to your existing school and the rest to Phakamani Primary School – JHB South (please note the name as there is another school called Phkamani Primary School in Mpumalanga). Let me know if you are interested in making a difference and I will provide you with frequent updates on the progress of the school.
